A short history of Weathertech
The company’s origin can be traced to 1936 when Carrier Corporation made the decision to set up a network of independent distributors as their selling organization for residential and commercial products. Shook and Fletcher, a mechanical contractor, was appointed as the exclusive representative for Carrier products in North Alabama. In 1952 Shook and Fletcher opted to sell the distribution business to a newly formed company, Alabama Air Conditioners and ran it as a factory branch. On June 1, 1973, Carrier Alabama moved to its new facilities, which included offices, parts store and warehouse in Irondale Alabama. On November 19, 1984, the parts store was move from Irondale facility to its current location on the Southside of Birmingham. On January 1, 1987, Bryant Birmingham, Carrier Corporation’s Bryant brand factory branch was merged with Carrier Birmingham to form Carrier/Bryant Alabama. On January 1, 1988, Carrier/Bryant Mississippi was merged into this company.
Totaline Parts was originally the parts outlet for Carrier/Bryant Alabama, and was formed into a separate unit in mid 1987, and moved to its current location at 2735 6th Avenue South, Birmingham Alabama, as the first remote location. Totaline has grown from a single department in the Irondale facilities to include six remote locations in Anniston, Downtown Birmingham, Florence, Huntsville, Irondale and Tuscaloosa.
On June 5, 1989, Doral G. Atkins purchased the distributorship from Carrier Corporation and named it Weathertech. From Weathertech’s beginnings, Atkins ran it like a true distributorship, not just another wholesale house. Weathertech has six locations to serve our customers with two locations being distribution centers, Irondale and Huntsville. Both DC’s carry the full line of Carrier branded equipment as well as a total line of OEM and generic parts, air supply products like sheet metal, duct board, etc, and Payne branded residential HVAC equipment.
Residential Sales Team
The Carrier Residential Sales Team at Weathertech includes 5 – Territory Managers, a Sales Manager, and a Sales Assistant and is one of the most experienced and professional sales teams in the HVAC market in Alabama. They have a combined total of 153 years in the industry with 89 years experience of serving dealers in their current positions. While providing full support of residential products and programs to a discreet network of Carrier Dealers they also keep them up to date with all light commercial products up to 25 tons. They consistently provide the right products at the right prices with timely availability of equipment shipped or delivered the same day from Irondale and Huntsville or directly from one of the multiple factories operated by Carrier or another of our suppliers.
Commercial Sales and Sales Support Group
Weathertech’ s Commercial Group is responsible for the sale, application and engineering support of our Carrier brand 3 phase products including both split systems and package products from 3 to 25 tons of cooling capacity. In addition to the primary support of all 3 phase products this group also provides engineering and application support for the single phase products used in commercial applications.
The group consists of an acting manager, dedicated outside sales engineer and 3 application engineers. The members of this team have over 125 years of collective experience, 4 engineering and science degrees from major universities and a registered professional engineer.
In addition to this dedicated support team Weathertech’s customers have the services of our 5 territory managers and sales manager who are also knowledgeable professionals.
Weathertech’s Order Department in simple words goes above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to taking care of our customers. In the Order Department we have more than 85 years of customer services experience. We are here to assist our customers in their equipment needs. Our extensive industry knowledge assures our customers they are making the right choice when they call Weathertech Order Department. Our goal is making our customers satisfied. We do our best to always achieve our goal. Our team is committed to making this department the best in the industry.
Customer Assurance and Technical Support
The Customer Assurance Department provides warranty processing and extended warranty contracts and claims. We assists our dealer net work in providing technical assistance to provide first class technical service for their technicians when servicing systems in the field. We provides at least 2000 plus training hours annually keeping the technician base trained and informed in the rapid changes and advances in HVAC.
Our department has over eight decades of HVAC warranty and Technical experience. We have a full time warranty administrator, and two technical advisors one of which is cross trained in the Carrier parts process.
